Keep the focus on the whole and its parts. Students can build freely, match an outline, or compare two valid decompositions.
1Start with talk
In Free Build, ask: “What did you make? Which shapes did you use?” Two triangles can make a different larger shape.
2Compare both solutions
Load Solution A, then Solution B. The outline stays the same, but the pieces change. Ask students to name one thing that changed and one thing that stayed the same.
3Use Check as evidence
Check uses convex polygon intersection areas and the target’s convex regions. It accepts any arrangement that exactly covers the target with no overlap and no outside area—not just the two stored solutions. Red dashed pieces need attention.
CCSS 1.G.A.2: Compose two-dimensional shapes to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape. The 90° turns and one-unit grid snapping keep every vertex aligned to the grid. Free Build has no target, so Check and solution buttons are intentionally unavailable there.
